Since starting our farm in 2002, we have been re-establishing it as a homestead and also bringing the property back to a mostly native habitat. We’ve been battling invasive species such as Japanese honeysuckle, Oriental bittersweet, multiflora rose, and glossy buckthorn. The battle is never ending, but we have made great strides in eliminating and managing these invasive plants, and the native plants are returning both naturally and with some help with plants added from local nurseries, like Fassett Farm Nursery (Jaffrey), Cheshire Floral Farm (Marlborough), and House By the Side of the Road (Wilton). We are hoping to in the near future provide seeds and plants to others who plant native.
Our farm is a Certified Wildlife Habitat with the National Wildlife Federation, and also listed on the Homegrown National Park biodiversity map.
We also keep small beds of non-native cultivars that aren’t considered invasive, such as various lilies, roses, peonies, dahlias, zinnias, lavender, daisies, foxgloves, snapdragons, sweet peas, and straw flowers. These we hope to be able to offer in cut flower arrangements along with some of the native flowers.
